It appears that the Asian carp issue in the Mississippi river system has reached a new height. A 2 mile stretch of river is set to be poisoned today south of Chicago to see if the carp are nearing lake Michigan. When will it end? Invasive species has become a real issue in the US for waterways all over the continent. The USFWS has made great strides in trying to prevent issues like this from happening http://www.fws.gov/invasives/, but in the end, I think it's an unresolvable issue. People will continue to bring in species from other parts of the planet, either intentionally or unintentionally, and the chances of them ending up in our waterways and then reproducing is unavoidable regardless of laws and education.
