Kicking off 2010, we're going to review a good cold weather product. A movie called Hustle and Fish by Rollcast Productions. Hustle and fish is a movie about a guy (Steve Apple) making a movie about a guy making a movie about fly fishing. Really. Well, there's a lot of "fish porn" in there too, but the story line is actually pretty good and definitely funny. To be honest, I've never bought fishing movies before. I think that's going to change this year, because I enjoyed watching Hustle and Fish, and writing this review. I might have to buy a few more, and I might start with Roll Cast Productions' other film; Fishizzle!.
Without any spoilers, the movie takes place in Washington, Alaska and British Columbia and contains some of the most stunning videography I've seen in the fly fishing world. The images in this film alone are worth every penny of the $24.99 price of the disc. There's a nice variety of scenes and fish with everything from Dolly Vardens to Steelhead and even sharks. I watched the trailer (watch below) several times before purchasing because I loved the look of the shots and the music of the trailer. I wasn't really surprised that the entire film was of the same high quality. The music is just great, and I think the guys/gals that put this film together deserve a round of applause.
I've actually watched the movie about 4 times since I got it. It's actually great to just sit down and relax with a beer and watch some beautiful scenery and really nice fish in high quality video. I even got my wife to watch it with me and she loved it. That's saying a lot since my wife both has a short attention span, and little tolerance for anything that isn't worth while. Which makes me wonder why she's still married to me. There's a few extras on the disc that are worth mentioning too, such as a slide show of great photography by a friend of Steve's set to some great music.
I highly recommend purchasing Hustle and Fish. In my opinion, any film I watch more than once is worth buying. It doesn't happen often, even with mainstream films, where I buy a DVD of anything. I'm really glad I bought Hustle and Fish.
